Task Programme

Sunday

13th June 2010

Rostherne Mere (SJ743847). We’ll be at this beautiful Natural England site to help tackle the invasive Himalayan balsam (introduced by the Victorians as a garden plant but now a widespread escapee) before it flowers and seeds for this year. Leader: Julian (07957 355468).

Sunday

27th June 2010

Chorlton Water Park (SJ824919). Our task today will be to work on the bank next to a recently constructed lakeside path at this Mersey Valley site, stabilising it and at the same time improving biodiversity by preparing it for wildflowers. Leader: Sandra (0161 928 3977 or 07973 410340).

Sunday

11th July 2010

Hogswood Covert, Carrington Moss (SJ 745905). Working at one of Cheshire Wildlife Trust’s sites, we will again be helping to combat the spread of Himalayan balsam. Leader: Helen (07969 614332).

Sunday

25th July 2010

Alderley Edge (SJ861779). Today’s task will be constructional, maintaining either steps or revetments, and we’ll be working for the National Trust near Castle Rock. Leader: John (0161 881 2135).

Thursday

29th July 2010

Pub night. It’s the last Thursday of an odd-numbered month, so time for a pub night! Come along and catch up with the volunteers you know and meet the ones you don’t. Let Julian (07957 355468) know if you’re planning to come along and he’ll let you know which pub has been chosen this time!

Sunday

22nd August 2010

Poynton Coppice (SJ942826). This is one of the Cheshire East Rangers’ sites, and today we will be carrying out maintenance work with them on the paths here. Leader: Gary (07768 278371).

Sunday

12th September 2010

Lower Moss Wood (SJ782752). Although we're not yet sure what the task at this educational nature reserve will be, it's always a great site to visit, not least for a chance to visit the current residents of the wildlife hospital. Leader: Dave (07729 989857).

Friday 26th to

Sunday 28th September

2010

Residential weekend in Peak District National Park. This is the second of our two residential weekends for 2010, and as usual we’ll be working for the Peak District Rangers. Whatever the task is, these weekends give time for relaxing as well as working in a beautiful location. We will be staying at Brunt’s Barn Volunteer Centre, Grindleford; places are limited, so let Peter (07551 645534) know in good time if you want to come along or if you want more details about the weekend’s arrangements.

Thursday

30th September 2010

Pub night. Another chance to catch up with other volunteers over a drink. Get in touch with Elaine (07986 686526) to find out which pub she’s chosen for us to congregate in!
